Act IV

"O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris,From off the battlements of yonder tower;Or walk in thievish ways; or bid me lurkWhere serpents are; chain me with roaring bears;Or shut me nightly in a charnel- house,O'er-cover'd quite with dead men's rattling bones,With reeky shanks and yellow chapless skulls;Or bid me go into a new-made graveAnd hide me with a dead man in his shroud;Things that, to hear them told, have made me tremble; And I will do it without fear or doubt,To live an unstain'd wife to my sweet love." Juliet, (IV, i)
Juliet is truly horrified at the idea of marrying Paris and would rather die, as the quote above so picturesquely shows. In this act, Friar Laurence conjures up a plan that he intends will reunite the two young lovers. On the night before her wedding, Juliet is to drink a potion that will make her appear dead. She will then be placed in the family tomb. In the meantime, the Friar will send a letter to Romeo explaining the situation, and the latter will leave Mantua to be at Juliet's side when she wakes up. They will then escape. Or will they........?

Juliet treasures her love for Romeo in her heart with so great a feeling that she dreads not dying rather marrying someone else. Death is not the perfect solution for her seemingly unresolvable situation but the cold face of death, for Juliet, is far much better than being the wife of Paris, in deed the name Paris refers not to him as a person but the concept that stands for each man but Romeo. Friar finds a solution which seems to be a perfect idea that will later prepare the deaths of lover, the beginning of their ends. The sleepless malice, the fate, caught the lovers in its net and their hope turned to their desperate end.

Juliet, with her hope to see Romeo again, stands against the idea of marrying Paris and she seeks a way out of her desperate situation where she stucked between the tyranny of the old customs in which the daughters do nothing but obey their families and the fact that she can't reach Romeo so easily anymore for he is long gone from the city out of the exile by the prince. Friar of Lawrence comes with the idea of her pretending dead until Romeo comes to save her from her bounded destiny but the angel of death caught the lovers in the family tomb where Juliet was lyning dead-like and Romeo, unaware of that fact. Their love brought their end when she touched his poisonous lips.

How poor Juliet and Romeo are! Juliet is so horrified at the idea of marrying Paris she prefers unbeliavable things. She says “chain me with roaring bears;Or shut me nightly in a charnel- house,O'er-cover'd quite with dead men's rattling bones,With reeky shanks and yellow chapless skulls;Or bid me go into a new-made graveAnd hide me with a dead man in his shroud” as we understand with these quotations in spite of marrying Paris she says “close me in a place where the bodies and bones of dead people are stored or cover me with a dead men’s bones making strange sounds etc. And thanks to Friar’s perfect plan, they think that Juliet will drink poison that will induce her a deep sleep and make her appear dead for 24 hours. Therefore, she will not marry Paris and they can run to Mantua. It seems that everything will be good but can it be? Of course not! How can we expect a tragedy ends with a happy end?

Juliet wants Friar Lawrence to help her in order not to marry Paris. The Friar has a plan. The plan is this: He gives her a vial with a potion inside that will make her appear to be dead, but in reality would only bring on a long sleep. When her family discovers her lifeless body, they would place it in the Capulets' tomb, and the Friar Lawrence would then send for Romeo to rescue her and take her away from Verona. Juliets accepts the plan and returns to home. Juliets tells her family that she will marry Paris and they start preparation for the wedding. On the evening before the wedding, they find the dead body of Juliet in her room. They take Juliet's dead body, according to the Friar's prediction, to the family tomb

When Romeo was punished, Juliet’ s family was planning the date of the wedding. She has to obey her family, she never wants that marriage. She loves Romeo so much that She prefers to die rather than marrying Paris. Friar Laurence makes a plan to reunite the lovers. Before wedding, Juliet will drink something that will make her seem dead. Then, Friar will send Romeo a letter to inform about the plan, and when Juliet is awake, they will run away and be together forever. They hope so, but this plan bring their death. In fact, I thought that the plan will work and they will be happy, before. But then I remembered the curse of Mercutio before his death and I said there must be something bad at the end. And they both died.

In Act IV, the things get worse.Juliet has the first and last night with her husband, unfortunatelly it is the last
thing that makes her happy.Just after Romeo goes out Juliet's room and she is informed that she has to marry Paris in a couple of days. She first refuses but later she pretends that she admits and wants to go to church for confession. We can see that in even worst situations Juliet never loses her control, and plans things in her mind in a few minutes. She is so determined that she will kill herself rather than marry Paris. But Friar mentions about a smart plan which will
solve all these problems.Juliet has no other choice but admit. It is very difficult decision to take the poison, since there is always this possibility that "what if i don't wake up again".For the sake of her love to her husband, she admits this risk without any hesitation.Actually she would kill herself in other case.Everything seems to be better, but the series of unfortunate events do not let it so.Stars are determined to do their jobs to seperate these two sweethearts..

When Juliet learns she has to marry Paris in a few days, she refuses this order without thinking, but her family insists on marrying Paris. So, Juliet behaves as if she accepts that she will marry Paris. Then, she goes to the church to ask Friar Lawrence for help. Nevertheless, she is too decided on killing herself rather than marry Paris. Friar Lawrence says Juliet that he has a perfect plan. Juliet will drink a potion and she will appear as if she is dead. And Friar Lawrence will sent a letter to Romeo to come when Juliet wakes up. I believe that drinking the potion symbolizes the true love of Juliet because she takes the risk of being dead. Unfortunately, this plan does not work, the letter is not received to Romeo. When Romeo hears Juliet is dead, he goes to Juliet’s tomb. As he sees Juliet lying motionless, he drinks the potion which he took before. When Juliet wakes up, she sees her husband’s dead body and she kills herself. As a result, the big love finishes a grievous ending. I think that they would have a happy end if Friar Lawrence did not make a plan like that or he should have stayed near the Juliet’s tomb until Romeo comes.

I was really impressed by Juliet's words. How she passionately loves Romeo is perfectly pictured. In my opinion, she really experienced the real love. However, customs or families made life challenging for them to endure. While she was looking forward to seeing Romeo again, the Capulet decided that it would be best for their daughter to marry Paris and put an end to her grief. However, the idea of marrying Paris was worse than the death. As a result, she asked for Friar Lawrence's help and she agreed to drink a potion, which makes her appear dead. Then, Romeo will come to the vault and they will escape to Mantua.I think, juliet was a real lover because she determined to take risk without hesitation for the reason that no one can be her husband as she had already accepted Romeo as her husband, but things didn’t go smoothly and their plan turned into the end of their fate.

The solution is really a clever one. But the time they lived made everything more impossible. They could not be sure whether R. had the letter or not. They would have taken the risks into account. Friar could have sent two letters maybe. Juliet is really brave. She kills herself twice:) she does not marry Paris, instead she dies. She turns life back and she dies for her true love again. Paris is dead, Romeo is dead and Juliet is dead...a love story full of deaths!

A poor or perfect plan? It seems that the plan of Friar Laurence causes end of the big lovers. If the plan went as it had been expected, would Romeo and Juliet be together forever? I think that as it is said at the beginning of the play, Romeo and Juliet are star-crossed lovers, so even if the plan seems to be perfect, something should go wrong because their tragic end will come soon. I believe even if the letter is reached to Romeo or even if Friar Laurence comes to the tomb earlier, there will be other events that prevent them from living together happily.

Act IV includes the most complicated point of the story. juliet loves her husband very much and wants to be happy with him through her life. however, she must take a big risk and drink the potion before the day of wedding of Paris. there could be some other faults. for example, the potion could be too effective for Juliet and she could die or perhaps it won't have any effect on Juliet. ın my opinion this proves how much she was in love with Romeo. finally she accepted the plan of false death. however, the misunderstanding brought their end. we see the effect of tragic destiny in this sweet story.

Juliets mother wants to marry Juliet and Paris, but Juliet does not want. Romeo and Juliet’s love is very deep because Juliet takes the risk. Maybe the plan of Friar Laurence could be tragic. Also, there is a big passion between Romeo and Juliet. You think for a minute and ask yourself ‘Can I take risk of death at the expense of my love?’ If your answer is yes, maybe you have a big love.

Romeo and Juliet are really strong lovers and loyal to each other all throughout the play.Although Juliet's father insists on her marrying Paris, she rejects it at once, but wisely enough she tries to play along the idea that she is going to marry Paris thus wnats to go to the church to confess to Friar Lawrence. There Friar Lawrence makes a plan to see them united again, but nothing goes in a smooth way, and their fate changes direction, forcing juliet to drink the poison, letting Romeo think she is dead.

The greatest tragedy written ever shows why it is called so.Juliet chooses the unbelievable and direful ends for herself if she is obliged to get marry to Paris.Of course behind these, there is her true love for Romeo, and their secret marriage.Shakespeare shows his perfect charecterization in Juliet from moving this 13 year old girl to a woman who tries to shape her own way.

Juliet expresses how dreadful feeling it is to be married to Paris by saying “O bid me leap rather than marry Paris ……" and so on. Paris also speaks with Friar Laurence about the marriage to Juliet. Paris says that Juliet became unbalanced because of Tybalt's killing and it is better for them to marry for Juliet's putting an end to crying for her cousin anymore. However ,Juliet is unwilling to marry him. That passionate love does not accept any other man except for Romeo to marry. She likens being married to Paris something like death. She expresses that She prefers dying rather than living together with Paris. Furthermore, Paris says that it would be a good choice to marry just because of her stopping to cry ,but he is not tend to show whether he loves her or not. Anyway, Juliet asks for help from Friar Laurence and they conjures up a plan together which they think that lead to a very happy end. The plan seems to be perfect. She would drink a potion to make her appear to be dead and would be laid to rest in the tomb and Friar would inform Romeo by sending a letter via Friar John. Then, they will go together to be free to live happily away from their parents’ feuding. Who could estimate that the fate had different plans for them. How can the Friar think the letters' not being reached to Romeo or who would think that such a perfect plan leads to their unlucky end which is determined by their star-crossed fates.
